NOTABLE AND FAMOUS PERSONS WHO SCHOOLED IN UNIBEN.




Uniben, apart from been one of the most famous, prominent and reputable University in the country and Africa at large, for sure, does have a thing for training, raising and producing reputable and prominent individuals.

This fact is attested to by the caliber of persons who at a point in time schooled at the prominent University. They have excelled greatly in politics, in the music industry, film industry, business etc. Below is a list of some of this persons;

Babatunde Fashola, SAN


Born in 1963, he is the immediate past Lagos State Governor and currently the Federal minister of Power, Works and Housing. He studied Law at the University of Benin from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Law, LL.B. (Hon) degree in 1987.




Emmanuel Uduaghan


He is the immediate past governor of Delta state. A post he held from 2007 till 2015. He is a medical doctor by profession and studied at the University of Benin within the period of 1975–1980 earning a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree, and a Diploma in Anesthesia.




Richard Mofe-Damijo


Yes! The popular actor also known as RMD was once a student of the Uniben. He studied theater arts in the school. He is also a former commissioner in Delta State.




Sir Victor Uwaifo


Born in the year 1941, he was a legend in music, a writer, sculptor and musical instrument inventor. He was a onetime commissioner for arts and culture in Edo State. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Benin in 1994, where he studied fine and applied arts.




Bright Okpocha (Basketmouth)


Born in 1978, he is popularly known as Basketmouth. He is a prominent Nigerian comedian and actor.  He studied sociology and anthropology at the University of Benin.




James Onanefe Ibori


The former governor of Delta State who ruled from 1999-2007. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin, Benin City.




Omoni Oboli


She is an actress, scriptwriter, director and producer, and a trained digital filmmaker. In 2010, she won the award for Best Actress – Narrative Feature at the Los Angeles Movie Awards, and the award for Best Actress at the Harlem International Film Festival.




Ifeanyi Ararume


Ifeanyi Godwin Ararume was elected Senator for the Imo North constituency of Imo State, Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic. He studied for a master’s Degree   in International Relations in the University of Benin, Benin City.



Emmanuel Osa Agwoje


Born in April 1962, he is a banker and businessperson. He is currently the chief executive officer of Equator Capital Ltd. He earned an M.SC in economics at the University of Benin where he emerged the as best graduating student.




Oladipo Agboluaje


He is a British playwright born in Hackney. He is educated in Britain and Nigeria. He studied theatre arts at the University of Benin.
