GRACE IDOIGHERE FROM MATHS DEPT. WINS UNIBEN SPELLING BEE 2017
The grand finale of the Uniben Spelling Bee 2016/2017 session, organized by Campus Metro has ended with Grace Idoighere, a 400 level student from the department of Mathematics emerging the winner.
The event which was held at the Main Auditorium, University of Benin, saw over 70 persons contesting for the star prize of a brand new laptop and a hundred thousand naira in cash.
The audience were certainly not left out in the action, as expression of tension, joy and excitement could be seen clearly on their faces, as they watched their friends, loved ones, course mates compete for the prize.
The last round in the competition saw Akande Opeyemi Olamide from the TSD 100 level, Abbas Abubakar Atepe, 500level Law and Grace Idoighere standing after spellings and misspellings from the various participants through the several rounds.
At the end, Akanbi Olamide emerged the 1st runnerup winning a prize of 50,000 naira cash and a tablet. Abbas Atepe became 2nd runner up with a prize of 30,000 naira and a smartphone.
The star making event was graced by the presence Prof. Osariemen Benson Osadolor, the Dean of students’, Mr. Michael Osasuyi, the P.R.O of the University, and the great Vice Chancellor Prof. F.F.O Orumwese ably represented by Prof. Osagiede, the immediate past Dean of students’.
Also in attendance were Excos from the SUG students governing body, and a host of other dignitaries.
Artistes and stars from the University were present to thrill everyone present with good comedy, music as well as spoken words.


















LIFE SCIENCES LIFTS VC’S TROPHY
The Vice Chancellor’s football tournament has come to an end on Friday the 16th with the faculty of Life Sciences lifting the trophy after a serious battle with the faculty of engineering on the field at the main bowl, sports complex.
Both teams played with great dexterity and courage even with the heavy the rain, as they put in their best in the fight to lift the trophy. It was a tough time deciding the winner, as the match ran through the first half and into full time in a goalless draw.
After the full time with no winner, penalties were taken to decide the winner of the game. The penalties were taken, and at the end, the faculty of life sciences gained victory over the Engineering team.
The teams played passionately and represented their faculties with great pride, but in every football tournament, there must be a winner.
Fans from both faculties were on ground to cheer and encourage their team as they played for the cup.
Present at the occasion was the Vice Chancellor of the great University and a host of other dignitaries from various works of life.
Also, in the females’ tournament, the faculty of Arts came victorious after a penalty shoot-out to lift the trophy against faculty of education.
Indeed, it was a really exciting and thrilling day for both the teams and the spectators who were present.
